In 1998, ScienCentral conducted a survey of 150 local TV news directors in partnership with the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation (RTNDF) to gauge their interest in carrying more science and technology news on their newscasts. The survey was funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The survey revealed that 65% would air more science and technology news if it came from a trusted source, and fewer than 20% had a science/technology news reporter on staff. The RTNDF provides training programs, seminars, scholarship support and research in areas of critical concern to electronic news professionals and their audience.
